A study of depth/texture bit-rate allocation in multi-view video plus depth compression

چکیده
Multi-view Video plus Depth (MVD) data offer a reliable representation of three dimensional (3D) scenes for 3D Video applications. This is a huge amount of data whose compression is an important challenge for researchers at the current time. Consisting of texture and depth video sequences, the question of the relationship between these two types of data regarding bitrate allocation often raises. This paper questions the required ratio between texture and depth when encoding MVD data. In particular, the paper investigates the elements impacting on the best bit-rate ratio between depth and color: total bit-rate budget, input data features, encoding strategy, assessed view.

Joint Depth/Texture Bit-Allocation For Multi-View Video Compression
Multi−View display technology allows the presentation of a 3D video by showing simultaneously several views of the same scene. One approach to render these multiple views is to synthesize novel views using a Depth Image Based Rendering (DIBR) algorithm. Consequently, for the efficient transmission of 3D video signals, the compression of texture and also the depth images is required. Since the r...
متن کاملFast Intra Mode Decision for Depth Map coding in 3D-HEVC Standard
three dimensional- high efficiency video coding (3D-HEVC) is the expanded version of the latest video compression standard, namely high efficiency video coding (HEVC), which is used to compress 3D videos. 3D videos include texture video and depth map. Since the statistical characteristics of depth maps are different from those of texture videos, new tools have been added to the HEVC standard fo...
متن کاملDepth Map Compression with Diffusion Modes in 3D-HEVC
For three-dimensional television, multiple views can be generated by using the Multi-view Video plus Depth (MVD) format. The depth maps of this format can be compressed efficiently by the 3D extension of High Efficiency Video Coding (3D-HEVC), which has explored the correlations between its two components, texture and associated depth map. In this paper, we introduce two modes for depth map cod...
متن کاملPlanelet Transform: A New Geometrical Wavelet for Compression of Kinect-like Depth Images
With the advent of cheap indoor RGB-D sensors, proper representation of piecewise planar depth images is crucial toward an effective compression method. Although there exist geometrical wavelets for optimal representation of piecewise constant and piecewise linear images (i.e. wedgelets and platelets), an adaptation to piecewise linear fractional functions which correspond to depth variation ov...
متن کاملCompression Algorithm for Multi-view Video Coding Using a Depth Map
In this paper, we propose an efficient multi-view video coding algorithm that uses a depth map. This algorithm is based on the correlation between texture maps and depth maps. This correlation is based on the fact that the motion vectors (MVs) in texture maps are strongly affected by their depth values. In general, background objects have smaller MVs whereas foreground objects have higher MVs. ...
